On Tuesday afternoon, Stephon Marbury chatted on ESPN.com with disgruntled New York Knicks fans, unfortunately desperate fans of the Miami Heat/Boston Celtics/Dallas Mavericks, and delusional Brooklynites.
Here are some of the highlights:
- "
Buzzmaster: Stephon will be here soon!
Buzzmaster: Sorry for the delay folks. We're tracking down Stephon right now.
Buzzmaster: Stephon is here!"
-Classic Stephon right there. Stephon late for an appointment? No way! You can expect nothing less from Stephon Marbury.
- Stephon spent a lot of time talking about the relaunch of his "Starbury" brand of sneakers and clothes. His heart is in the right place but let's be real. Any kid that gets these sneakers from their parents will be utterly disappointed and on the verge of major depressive disorder. The only guys that will actually purchase these for themselves are gentlemen that don't want to ruin their real sneakers when playing basketball. The only females that would purchase these shoes are aspiring NBA team interns who will follow Stephon to whichever team signs him.
- Stephon explained why he wouldn't take less money to be bought out. Frankly, I don't blame him and actually agree with him on this point. Most buyouts happen because both the player and the organization both want to sever ties. However, Stephon has stated from the beginning he's never wanted to leave. Why should he take less if he still wants to play here. It makes no sense. The organization should either play him and pay him or buy him out at full value. Stephon has many flaws but he's always wanted to play and when he did, he always played hard. It's just that he never played the right way.
- Stephon stated he didn't regret how his Minnesota Timberwolves career ended but earlier talks about how he just wants to go somewhere and win. HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE, STEPH?!?! You and Kevin Garnett could've been the Stockton and Malone of the past decade and started a dynasty of your own but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, you wanted to be "THE GUY". You're talking out the side of your face, dumbass.
- He also talks about if he signs somewhere else and wins a couple championships, his legacy will be that of a winner. Gut check. Your legacy will still be of someone who pretty much ruined the future of 3 franchises who got significantly better after you stopped playing for them. What planet is this guy from?
- When asked about whether he'd make the Hall Of Fame, he concluded his statement by saying ".....you must allow your presence to be bright." I'm still trying to figure that one out. No luck at this present time.
- When asked if he still felt he was the best point guard in the NBA, Steph stated he has to get back on the court before he makes another statement like that. I'm convinced this guy cleaned off a whole bottle of LSD before entering the chatroom. If he signed with Dallas or Boston, he'd be the second best PG on the team! How!?! Yes, at this point, I'm losing it.
- Steph said he'd do it over again if he knew what he knew now about how his career on the Knicks would be like. If you asked any sane Knicks fan not related to the Marbury clan whether they'd allow that to happen, you'd hear a resounding "NO" that would be heard from satellites orbiting this planet. You'd also find an increase in gun sales in the tri-state area just in case this was physically possible.
Of course there is more. If you want to read the chat for yourself, follow the link here:
